Archives

Since the mid-1990s, the 25th Infantry Division Association has maintained its archives at the George C. Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Virginia. The purpose of the archives is to amass and preserve material relating to the history of the Tropic Lightning Division, serving as a resource for Association members, students, and researchers.

What the Collection Includes

• Maps from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam
• Letters, after-action reports, and combat action reports
• Captured flags, uniforms, and equipment
• Photographs and combat art
• Unit rosters and orders
• Newspapers, clippings, and books
• Newsletters and mess-hall menus
• Notable items include a hand-drawn 35th Infantry Regiment Mortar Platoon banner (circa 1945) and a 12th Infantry Regiment guidon from Vietnam

Visiting the Archives

The collection is catalogued and members may inspect the inventory and request to see items at the Marshall Foundation. No items may be removed from the facility. The Foundation staff does not perform research for individuals, but will assist visitors. Please contact the Foundation in advance to ensure assistance is available.

The Marshall Foundation also houses the papers of General George C. Marshall, General George Patton, and General Van Fleet in a three-story climate-controlled vault.
